Bodham Big Weekend
Once again the weather was just right for our Big Weekend. The three days followed the successful formula of the previous two years beginning on Friday 23rd July with the Lads v Dads football match on the Playing Field. After a competitive game the Lads were victorious winning 4 1. The man of the match was Nathan Webb who was presented with the match ball which, this year, was sponsored by Jackie & Peter Bedell. Later in the evening a BYO Quiz took place in the Village Hall. Philip High and his team from Holt very kindly officiated and the eventual winners were Julia & Norman Dovey and Denise & Chris Armstrong. An enjoyable evening was had by all and £284 was raised. On Saturday 24th the Annual Horticultural Show took place with 264 entries. The judges were impressed with the high quality of all the exhibits considering the recent weather conditions. The Billy Cooper Memorial Cup for Best in Show was won by Clare Massingham. Another successful show raised £400. The Fishing Competition at the Marl Pit took place in the morning with a small but select number of entries. The winner of both cups (for largest fish and for most fish caught) was Derek Atkins our Deputy Fishing Warden. To end Saturday we had Midnight Circus playing live on the Playing Field which attracted a very large crowd who danced the night away. Starting at 12 noon on Sunday 25th July our Funday took place on the Playing Field. A packed programme of events went on until 5pm including three Punch & Judy shows with Professor Philip, two sessions with the Trix N Stix drumming group and the Thorpe Kite Flyers performing with kites of all shapes and sizes until, sadly, the wind dropped. The Tractor Towing Competition was a great success with young and old. The Crayford & Abbs Shield was retained by the Burchy Boys beating the Castaways by 5 seconds in the final. Mark Burch won the Welly Throwing Competition for the second year running. JP & Diane Ringer ably ran the Children and Adult Races. All winners were presented with certificates and bags of sweets. Car Boot Sale, Craft Stalls, Village Games, Tombola, Cake Stall and Maisie Macks Fairground Organ completed a very successful weekend. We hope we have raised somewhere in the region of £3,000, all will be revealed when accounts have been finalised. So many volunteers and supporters from the village and elsewhere gave up their time and energy to make the whole weekend possible for which we say a very big THANK YOU. For photographs of previous Big Weekends, take a look at our gallery. Bodhams Own Coconut Shy !The "Sayer & Linford" Coconut Shy was there. After weeks of pressure from
the committee and hints in the Newsletter it finally appeared and wasn't it brilliant?
However it was not delivered quietly as the following copy of letter to me reveals: All the pictures from Bodhams Big Weekend are displayed at
