The Village Hall Committee meets every month.

Village Hall

Pam Baker Chair (588740), Derek and June Sayer (588266),
Ann Digby Secretary (588409), Jean Brown, Harry Bruford Vice-Chair,
Peter Alexander Treasurer, Brenda Alexander (588126), Peter Bedell (588743), Anthea Sweeney and Julia Dovey

We are very fortunate to have such a busy Village Hall, used by many clubs, organisations and members of the public who, by paying a fee, contribute to the upkeep of the Hall.

We have been able to use part of this money to improve the Kitchen by investing in a new Fridge and Cooker along with saucepans and utensils. Also, thanks to a grant obtained by Harry, we recently updated the loft lagging which has considerably helped retain the heat in the hall.

The committee wish to thank our Secretary and Caretaker Ann Digby for the tremendous amount of work she does on our behalf.

Another Bring Your Own Quiz (Drinks and Nibbles) was held on Friday 16 December. The raffle was well supported by generous gifts and the whole evening made £262 for Village Hall funds. The next BYO Quiz is on 24 February

We wish all our supporters A VERY HAPPY AND PEACEFUL NEW YEAR.

Our December screenings LES MISERABLES and WHITE CHRISTMAS proved extremely popular, it was very pleasing to see so many cinemagoers including new supporters. Les Mis was the 25th Anniversary celebrated at the 02 Arena in 2010 and just recently Phantom of the Opera also reached its 25th Year and was celebrated at the Royal Albert Hall, we hope to screen this in March.

We look forward to welcoming you all in 2012 and start with:
4 January - 7.00pm. Nominated for three Oscars Billy Elliot (15) starring Jamie Bell, Julie Walters and Gary Lewis. A talented youg boy becomes torn between his unexpected love of dance and the disintegration of his family.

18 January - 7.00pm. A Tale of Two Cities (U) starring Dirk Bogarde and Dorothy Tutin. An unusually faithful cinematic adaption of Dickens’ timeless classic. This sensitive film succeeds in portraying not only vast social upheaval but also the personal and individual consequences of such change.

Bodham Marlpit

Reprinted from John Bailey’s article in the Eastern Daily Press:

The one shining example, the one water to buck the trend, dear old Bodham Marlpit. As a kid it was never up to much, always full of prams, old bicycles and junk from all around. Today though, the Parish Council has taken the water it under its wing and cleaned it up, made it presentable and turned it into something quite lovely. There are still wild carp and crucian carp - albeit of dubious parentage - and roach and rudd and fish that bite all the long, sunny summer holidays. What a great thing to have done. I’m not necessarily a lover of bodies, committees and bureaucracy but in this instance Bodham have got it right. Three cheers to them, if every parish had similarly looked after their ponds and pools our school kids would be a lot happier today. In fact, as happy as we were half a century ago.

The Parish Council would like to express their thanks to Fred Harmer and Derek Atkins for all their hard work on the Marlpit over many years.
